Marina Barrage

On the wet Saturday morning of 1 Nov 2008, we organized a visit to the newly opened Marina Barrage. When we reached there the weather was very cooling, perfect for exploring the dam. We were in for a treat when the operations uncle and his assistant (the two on the front right in the photo) shared with us about the dam and the boat hoisting operations, and he was so happy that he even demonstrated how the crane (the blue structure in the background) was used to move a boat from one side of the dam to the other - we were the only group he showed off his precision crane operating skills to!

We then went on a boat ride around the reservoir, soaking in the atmosphere, and our cameras were snapping away at the beautiful scenery and the Singapore Flyer. After that we were guided through the gallery which showcased the many green initiatives and the technology behind the Marina Barrage.

The overall response from the participants was very good. It was heartening to note that many of the residents who came on this trip were joining in our RC activity for the first time, and we hope this wonderful experience will spur them on to join in our many other RC activities.
